Demystifying the Theory behind Rock and Pop Music

RockStudyMusic was born from the commitment and expertise of Lachlan Wilson, a seasoned musician hailing from Melbourne, Australia. Lachlan has a rich history playing saxophone and flute with various groups and ensembles across Australia, starting from the 60s all the way to the present day. His thirst for a deeper grasp of music theory led him back to school as a mature age student, where he completed a Bachelor of Music from the University of Melbourne. This degree further propelled him into postgraduate studies in composition and education.

The birth of rock and roll in mid-20th century America served as a defining moment for the young adults of that era, then referred to as teenagers. Their unique identity began to shape through specific fashion trends, admiration for young celebrities like James Dean and Marlon Brando, and most importantly, a fresh musical style brimming with optimism, rhythm, and energy. The typical rock and roll musician of this time was young, passionate, and often lacked formal music training.

This music style, however, didn't materialize out of thin air. It cleverly tweaked elements from previous genres, mainly Rhythm and Blues and Country music, morphing into a distinct sound that resonated with young people not just in America, but globally. This continual evolution has sparked numerous stylistic diversities within the rock genre over the decades.

Interestingly, many rock musicians have honed substantial technical abilities, despite having little to no knowledge of music notation and theory. But there's no denying that understanding the theory behind the music can significantly enhance a musician's performance and composition abilities, moulding them into more competent artists.

During the educational sessions delivered by RockStudyMusic, the raw energy and commanding language of Rock and Pop music serve as the foundation of these insightful lessons.
